The Concussion in Sport Group recently modified the definition of a sport-related concussion at the 5th International Conference on Concussion in Sport and included in their consensus statement that a sport-related concussion “may be caused either by a direct blow to the head, face, neck, or elsewhere on the body with an impulsive force transmitted to the head.”1 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that 1.6 to 3.8 million concussions occur annually in sport and recreational activities.2 Sport-related concussions primarily occur through three modes of impact:
