Longitudinal disruptions, or axial dislocations, of the hand are rare injuries, comprising only 1.4% of all carpal injuries.1 Longitudinal disruptions frequently result from a powerful crush injury.1–3 In severe cases, the result can be a complete carpometacarpal dislocation with various fractures to the carpal bones. Less severe injuries may result from athletic events, especially for high-level athletes.
